Helpful Resources During COVID-19

Need Help For Loss Of Wages?

California EDD will continue to help workers hurt by COVID-19. For instance,

• If you’re unable to work because you are caring for an ill or quarantined family member with COVID-19 you may qualify for Paid Family Leave (PFL).
• If you’re unable to work due to medical quarantine or illness, you may file an unemployment insurance claim.
• If a worker or a family member is sick or when authorities recommend quarantine, workers may use accrued paid sick leave.
• If your child’s school is closed, and you have to miss work to care for them, you may be eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits.
• If your employer has reduced your hours or shut down operations due to COVID-19, you can file an unemployment insurance claim..
• If workers are unable to do their usual job because they were exposed to and contracted COVID-19 during the regular course of their work, they may be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits.
• One-week waiting period is waived for people who are unemployed and/or disabled as a result of COVID-19;  All information and resources can be found at Labor.Ca.Gov/Coronavirus2019
• Starting from 4/28/2020, self-employed workers (independent contractors, freelancers, small business owners, …) can apply for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) at: http://134.187.115.243/Benefit_Programs_Online.htm

US Small Business Administration (SBA)  provides SBA loans for small business.  You can apply for both of these loans:

• Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan: will be forgiven if all employees are kept on the payroll for eight weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, or utilities.  Apply with your business bank (BofA, Chase, etc…)
• Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) advance up to $10,000.  This will be forgiven.  Apply here: https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/coronavirus-relief-options/economic-injury-disaster-loan-emergency-advance 

Santa Clara County Sacred Heart is providing financial assistance for families effected by the COVID-19 virus:

• If you are a resident of Santa Clara County, have low income and have loss of income related to COVID-19 impacts due to health, employment, or school/child care closures you may apply for assistance here.  Eligible households will receive direct financial assistance, based on documented loss of income as a result of COVID-19 impacts, up to a maximum of $4,000 of lost income per month.
